Dead ATM theft suspects are BritishMonday 16 November 2009 The three men killed when their car overturned on the A12 motorway on Friday night shortly after allegedly stealing a cash point machine were all English, police said on Sunday. The two survivors, who are in hospital, are also English, police said. The three dead are from London and Liverpool, the survivors from Liverpool. According to news agency Novum, the gang got the machine out of the wall in the town of Driel, southeast of Arnhem, which was fitted with a mechanism causing it to explode and cover the cash with dye. Police gave chase but the men got away in their car. Around 30 minutes later, the car went out of control on the motorway and flipped over. Several thousand euros with dye on it were found in the car, Novum said. According to local tv station RTV Utrecht, the car had been stolen in the Netherlands in September © DutchNews.nl Get the DutchNews.nl newsletter in your mailbox: Click here to subscribe
How long did it take to extract the ATM from the wall? Why did the alarm system not alert security immediately so they could have informed Police immediately, and thus have stopped a crime, and three deaths? Seems strange that as the all customer's faces, and actions, are recorded (usually transmitted and recorded at a manned central monitoring location) that they could actually get as far as removing the ATM before Police arrived! By Gerard | November 16, 2009 8:56 AM Gerard....you have been watching too much tv to think that things are that easy. You seem to be critisising everyone except the criminals...sorry late criminals!! By jeff | November 16, 2009 1:19 PM Considering this happened fridaynight it took ages before the British press picked up this story. Did that anti-theft explosion mechanism cause the car accident? By Mike | November 16, 2009 1:39 PM My goodness, I thought nonsense such as this only happened in South Africa.. well then again, they're English Yobs - anything could happen. By Trippy Grape | November 16, 2009 1:45 PM Sorry Jeff, but I used to work in security - at many levels (even done Banking systems), and I know the difference between what is reality, and what's TV - which I don't actually watch that much of ...prefer to walk/hobble, now that I can ... with aid of good Shops! I still think we need behavioral pattern recognition software on systems like these. By Gerard | November 16, 2009 3:50 PM Friday the 13th ...maybe they should have picked a better day ... By Eva | November 16, 2009 4:42 PM Well, yes. ATM robberies can and do happen the world over, and cars do sometimes crash when pursued by the police. Sad but true. Britain, just like everywhere else, has its fair share of failed bank robbers but is just plain ignorant and arrogant to blame this incident on imaginary generic 'English yobs'. They were just bank robbers who failed. English yobs would not have the brains to do it. By John Booker | November 16, 2009 10:23 PM Strange but I have a hard time feeling sorry for them...
