Albert Heijn looks to Belgium and Germany
Friday 06 November 2009
Dutch food retail group Ahold is considering exporting its market leader brand Albert Heijn to Belgium and Germany, the Financieele Dagblad reports on Friday.
The company is planning to boost its knowledge of the Netherlands next door neighbours and is looking for takeover candidates, the paper says.
The paper said a spokesman for the company had confirmed the new focus.
Earlier this week, Albert Heijn chairman Dick Boer told the FD he wanted to expand the company's 'playing field'.
On Thursday, Ahold said Boer is handing over his management control of Albert Heijn to focus on exploring growth opportunities 'in existing and new markets'.
