Water polo players face attempted murder

Two sisters are facing community service for attempting to murder another girl during a water polo match.

The girls, aged 22 and 16, are said to have held an opponent under water for so long she almost drowned, shortly after she scored a goal.
The victim is said to suffer from post traumatic stress and has been unable to work for six months.
The sisters were suspended from the club immediately after the incident.
A spokesman for the public prosecution department told news agency ANP it would be wrong if serious crimes commited at sports centres were not prosecuted. The older girl faces 240 hours of community service, the younger one 180 hours.
