The Netherlands’ oldest resident dies

The Netherlands’ oldest resident – 112-year-old Grietje Jansen-Anker – died on Tuesday, the Telegraaf reports.

Jansen-Anker was born on September 12, 1897 in Vlissingen and lived in Middelburg until last year. Until her death, she lived in a nursing home in Rotterdam alongside her daughter.
Jansen-Anker was not keen on exploiting her age and refused to allow the media at her birthday celebrations, the paper says. Nor was the local Middelburg mayor welcome when he tried to bring her a birthday cake.
