Sums back on agenda in school finals
Wednesday 07 October 2009
Pupils taking their final school exams will have to do a compulsory arithmetic test from 2014, the Telegraaf reports on Wednesday.
junior education minister Marja van Bijsterveldt is bringing back arithmetic as a final exam subject in an effort to improve the 'alarmingly' low standards among some school leavers. The test will apply to everyone apart from those taking final exams in maths.
Trials involving 1,000 pupils will begin next year, the paper says.
