Spanish coach crash driver arrested

The Dutch driver of a coach which crashed in southern Spain on Monday morning, killing one girl, has been arrested and will appear in court later today.

The arrest follows a police investigation into the cause of the crash, in which a coach carrying 59 pupils and teachers overturned on the A7 motorway on the way to Barcelona.
Tests on the driver show he was not under the influence of drink or drugs at the time of the crash.
According to the travel company which organised the cultural trip, the driver says he was startled by something which crossed the road.
However, the Dutch consul general in the region told the Telegraaf the driver is accused of reckless driving and police think he may have fallen asleep at the wheel.
A number of pupils are still in hospital on Tuesday morning, but the first of the survivors are expected back in the Netherlands later today.
