Small plane crashes near Weert

Friday 16 October 2009

A small plane crashed into fields near the Limburg town of Weert on Friday, killing two people.

The crash happened close to the Kempen airfield shortly after take-off, the paper says. The aircraft came down in fields and burst into flames, which took fire officers 30 minutes to bring under control.

According to news agency ANP, the plane was loaded with 1,000 litres of kerosine which will need clearing up.

Condolences to Paul's family.
Paul was a special guy and was always smiling and happy. I first met Paul when he came to Mallorca and we had a great time flying around the Island. The last time I saw him was when he flew to Mallorca during the summer this year, he called me and ask me to meet him at the airport because he had forgotten how ugly I was. Anyone who knows Paul will know that this was typical of Paul. Paul you will be missed but never forgotten.

Getting to know about Paul just now, months later, I'm shocked. As ground assistance chief at Cagliari Airport years ago, I met Paul plenty of times. As he used to call me, I would call him "my big Dutch Brother". Extremely human and friendly, he has been my best friend among pilots coming from Netherlands. Planning to flight together some day, we were looking forward to organize some aviation fun day. But fate had the worse role in it, leaving me speechless in front of such a loss. My deepest sorrow and comprehension go to his wife and daughter. I'll never forget...
