Labour supporters furious at pension move

Friday 16 October 2009

Regional and local Labour party branches are furious at the government's plans to increase the state pension age and see it as a reason to let the cabinet fall, the Telegraaf says on Friday, quoting BNR radio.

The paper says various local branches of the PvdA think Labour ministers' agreement with the increase is a good reason to call early elections. Labour is part of the three-party coalition.

No party included a commitment to increase the state pension age in their 2006 election campaign and, according to opinion polls, more people oppose than support the idea.

Labour's popularity is currently at an all-time low, with some polls saying is support has more than halved. The party has 33 seats in the current 150 seat parliament.

I strongly disagree with the pension age going to 66 in 2020 and then 67 in 2025. If we need to increase it, let do it NOW for EVERYBODY. This actaul way of doing is highly unfair for the younger generations !

Hello Francis, and what do think this is for the older generation that have only 1 year left to work.
They have put money into the system and have worked MANY of them all there lifes..i suggest you take a look at what you have wrote and tell me how you feel when it is time for you to retire....

dear Maria, I personally believe the younger generation will not benefit from pension at all. The younger are paying as well very expensive rent, mostly to baby boomers who invested in real estate (for THEIR pension). I do not see why the younger should pay those people their retirement 2 times when the economic crisis is striking them first. I am being fired this month (am only 30 years old)and have little vision on the future at the moment. Will that be better when I will be 64 or 66 years old ? I doubt the system will offer me better possibilities at that time...

I think that the government should make sure more people in the ages 60-65 stay in labour instead of increasing the age limit.

When only 18% of the women and 38% of men work after 60, then it would be more beneficial to raise those percentages instead of adding 2 years more to the age limit.

PvdA will pay for such choices as most of the SocialDemocrat parties of Europe did when they betrayed their supporters and forgot their history and roots.
