Karadzic trial suspended as he fails to showMonday 26 October 2009 The trial of former Bosnian Serb leader Radovan Karadzic opened at the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia in the Hague on Monday but Karadzic himself was not in court, the BBC reports. The judge suspended the hearings until Tuesday, and requested Karadzic to attend. Karadzic is defending himself against 11 charges including genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity, and had said earlier he would boycott the court because he needed more time to prepare. Karadzic was extradited to the war crimes tribunal in July last year after 13 years on the run. © DutchNews.nl
The International Crime Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia is not a farce but a court with a mandate to deal with war criminals of the former Yugoslavia, as has been proven with the sentences handed out to the criminals indicted. The US does indeed recognise the ICTY, I think you're talking about the International Criminal Court here, America refused to sign the Rome Statute. By G. Mair | October 26, 2009 2:48 PM '..said earlier he would boycott the court because he needed more time to prepare.' He should tried in his absense then. By osita | October 26, 2009 4:11 PM its true many many many more ppl should be sent there, Mugabe for a start etc By adhd | October 26, 2009 5:52 PM I think these trials are a joke and the accused can prove the pharse. Milosevic could have got away but he passed away the same with Karadzic who will eventually make a mockery of the whole procedure and prove to the people playing court that they are not worth anything. The HYPOCRISY part is where the rest of the globe can go to court for crimes in the Hague apart from the US and UK who always get a free pass.shame... By Thrasos | October 27, 2009 2:17 AM

Even if i dont support Karadzic which was indeed a murderor, i have to say that the ICT is a pharse. Many more criminals should have been admitted there, and may i remind that the US does not recognise it, concerning its citizens. What a HYPOCRICY.
