Holland's only Sunday paper to close

Friday 09 October 2009

The Telegraaf newspaper group is pulling the plug on its Sunday edition because it cannot attract enough advertising to keep it going.

The Sunday edition was launched in early 2004, just weeks after regional newspaper Twentsche Courant Tubantia began publishing its own Sunday edition. That project stopped on January 1 this year.

The Telegraaf, the Netherlands biggest circulation newspaper, will stop producing the Telegraaf op Zondag on at the end of the year.

It's not a bad idea at all to stop publishing on Sunday since that newspaper has about 50% of articles on animals or the world of celebrity, and you have to wait until you reach the 3rd of 4th page to get some serious news info.

What on earth is the point of buying newspapers if you are already paying a provider for internet? Surely you can get all the news, sport & TV guides online for free, I do!

At least with internet news you can get rid of annoying advertising with a pop-up killer, but not with a newspaper!
