Forced redundancies double
Wednesday 28 October 2009
Around 85,000 people were sacked from their jobs over the first eight months of this year, compared with 44,000 in the same period last year, according to new figures from the national statistics office CBS.
Some 41,000 people lost their jobs because their employer went bankrupt, well over double the 2008 total.
The CBS said 80% of the job losses were due to the recession.
