EU pays to retrain Heijmans staff

Tuesday 13 October 2009

Construction firm Heijmans is the first Dutch company to benefit from EU money to help workers have been laid off find a new job, the Financieele Dagblad reports on Tuesday.

Heijmans is to get €386,114 from the EU to help pay for retraining 435 workers, the paper said.

The European commission decided in June to free up funding for retraining projects to help cope with the economic crisis.

The total cost of the Heijmans project is €600,000, the FD said.

The commission has previously given retraining funding to three other firms in Belgium and Ireland.
