The Netherlands should press ahead with plans to vaccinate people twice against swine flu (H1N1) despite reports that one dose will be enough, chief virologist Ab Osterhaus told Nos radio on Friday.

US and Australian researchers have said the vaccine produced by a Chinese pharmaceutical company offers good protection in a single dose.
But the Netherlands is using a different product, Osterhaus said. And although there are indications the Dutch vaccine may also be effective with one dose, two vaccinations offer better protection. Therefore he will recommend the government sticks to its original plan to vaccinate everyone twice, he told the news programme.
The Netherlands hopes to begin vaccinating at-risk groups at the end of October.
