So far, 78 hospitalised with swine flu

Monday 14 September 2009

In total 78 people have been hospitalised with swine flu (H1N1) of whom 14 have been in intensive care, the Telegraaf quotes the health and environment institution RIVM as saying.

The death toll in the Netherlands remains at two.

According to a new survey by pollster Maurice de Hond, one in four people in the country know someone who has become ill.

De Hond says this would mean between 1.5% and 2% of the population is currently ill with the virus - a total of up to 250,000 people. This is twice the infection rate estimated three weeks ago.

However, the RIVM told the Telegraaf it had no evidence that the virus is spreading more quickly. The Netherlands stopped collating official figures in July.
