A Libyan man, who lost his appeal against an earlier conviction for starting a deadly fire at a Schiphol airport deportation centre, is to be deported.

Ahmed Al-J was given a 1.5 year jail sentence on appeal earlier this month. Eleven people died in the fire at the cell complex in October 2005.
Al-J is now taking his case to the High Court. But a court in Utrecht ruled on Thursday his presence would not be necessary at the appeal and he can be deported as an undesirable alien.
Everyone who was injured in the fire has been given a residency permit in the Netherlands. However, the court said, this did not apply to the person convicted of starting the blaze.
