PVV MP acknowledges drink problem

Thursday 24 September 2009

Hero Brinkman, an MP for the anti-immigration PVV party, has acknowledged he has a drink problem and pledged to take steps to deal with it.

Brinkman allegedly hit a barman who refused to serve him more drinks at a bar at the parliamentary press centre in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Brinkman has denied hitting the barman but has not given his side of the story, the NRC reports on Thursday afternoon.

A former policeman, Brinkman is the party's spokesman on home affairs - which includes law and order. The PVV has called for mandatory 12-month jail terms for people convicted of public violence.

Party leader Geert Wilders was unavailable for comment, the NRC said.

At least he admits he has a drinking problem and wants to get help.

adhd,
Absolutely not Okay. I agree with you. It makes me wonder if he had been drinking on the job all this time? I found it unusual that he admitted he had a problem, most public figures wont admit that so quick, so I give him credit for being honest about it, but all the same he should resign as soon as possible.

I hope that a criminal record for violence bars him from holding public office.

Will PVV now sing a different song about violence=jail-time because they can't live up to their own standards? Or will they distance themselves from the alcoholic ex-cop?

Normally when a politician admit that he/ she has a problem so quickly means that there is a bigger problem larking in the dark basements of the party and the party do not want that big problem to be known by us (ordinary people), this is called diverting attention tactics. So what is that bigger problem??? only time will tell
