Netherlands boycotts Iran speech to UNThursday 24 September 2009 The Netherlands was one of several countries to walk out of the UN general assembly meeting on Wednesday during an address by the Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. The US, Canada and France also left the hall because of what news agency ANP said was Ahmadinejad's 'anti-semetic rhetoric'. The European Union had already decided to leave the meeting if the president denied the holocaust had taken place during World War II, ANP said. During his speech, Ahmadinejad criticised the 'zionist regime' in Israel for its 'inhuman police in Palestine'. © DutchNews.nl
spot on Prince Burnhard By xeta | September 24, 2009 2:18 PM I am ashamed to have the Dutch nationality, to see my government walk out from a speech that says most of the real truth is a sign of immaturity and more foolish than to listen to the speech and reply to it. By CaptainZen | September 24, 2009 5:05 PM The walkers can not reply to the truth from a strong leader, they have no response to the truth. Head in the sand, problem gone, that is their sick attitude. By CaptainZen | September 24, 2009 5:08 PM I can't really understand politicians acting like school kids who have fought and won't talk to each other. They are apparently unaware of the power of " Dialog", which is the only way to understand and appreciate the differences of each other, and ultimately can solve all the problems. By polarization, isolation, disrespect (etc.) nobody will gain but only arms industry. Let's listen, respect and learn... By BB | September 24, 2009 7:42 PM Spot on Netherlands! Good for you to walk out and show the world you will give no time to a hate filled speech that refuses historical fact! By bet | September 26, 2009 5:20 PM

You know that old saying - 'sticks and stones will break my bones, but words will never hurt me'?
Pretty ridiculous that the countries doing the most bone-breaking around the world these days (and for much of modern history) refuse to sit through a speech from the leader of a country that has not attacked anyone in hundreds of years.
Are thousand-pound bombs and drone strikes killing fewer people just because we don't talk about them?
