Máxima special advisor to UN head

Tuesday 22 September 2009

Princess Máxima has been named a special advisor to United Nations secretary general Ban Ki-moon in the field of financial services.

Máxima's role will be to advise Ban Ki-moon on how to make banks accessible to everyone, including in developing countries where it is often impossible to open a bank account or borrow money. The princess will give a speech in her new role in New York on Tuesday.

Máxima has been a member of a UN committee on bank accessibility for the past few years and is a known supporter of micro-financing in developing countries.

As someone who met Princess Maxima in the 1990s on a business trip to Argentina (i.e., before she was a Princess), I would say she got this job because she's a finance expert.

Answer, BOTH. She majored in Economics and met Prince Willem while working at a finacial institution in NY.

Its a good decision of UN Secretary General Mr.Ban Ki-Moon to appoint our Princess Maxima as his Special Advisor. Micro-Credit System can change the lives in the developing countries. Where Corrupt Elites can get millions of Dollars as loans (which they never pay back to the banks) but majority of the citizens are not able to get few hundreds.

I am happy that our future Queen will be playing a very productive role in the field of Micro-financing, which means Netherlands stronger contribution against Global Poverty.

We have to admire her intentions and efforts without any prejudice. The State of The Netherlands should support her in this regard as she will be contributing towards 'Image Building'. Our Small Medium business communities will also benefit.

I am sure she will be making a 'history as Dutch Princess'!!

Her late father-in-law was an advisor to the ministry of development aid, her Mother-in-law's sister is the president of the International Red Cross, and her husband is a member of the International Olympic Committee and chairman of the UN Water and Sanitary Facilities advisory board.

And they all got these jobs through their expertise, knowledge and experience in the relevant areas?

Come on... i wasn't born yesterday!

Choice A) is unlikely. Financial experts are a dime a dozen these days, making this a minor consideration.

Choice B) is more plausible. Certainly, lineage appears to have played a significant role in the lady's adoption into the Dutch royal family, as she is described online as a descendant of high Basque nobility through both parents.

And perhaps the fact that Maxima's father, Jorge Horacio Zorreguieta Stefanini,
was a cabinet member in the Argentine junta, famously inventive in "disappearing" its liabilities, was a deciding factor.
