Leatherback turtle spotted off Texel

A leatherback turtle (dermochelys coriacea) has been spotted swimming off the Wadden Sea island of Texel, regional marine centre Ecomare said on Monday.

‘This is the third report ever of a living leatherback off the Dutch coast,’a spokeswoman for Ecomare said.
Last week, a dead leatherback was found on the beach at Den Helder, where the Texel ferry service is based.
