Dutch drink less milk, bottled waterMonday 28 September 2009 The Dutch drank slightly less milk and bottled water last year, according to new figures from the soft drink association FWS. While milk consumption has been falling for years, sales of bottled water had been on the rise. Last year, the average consumption of milk was 44.3 litres per person a year, down from 49.3 litres in 2005. Bottled water sales, by contrast, have risen from 18.8 litres five years ago to 21.5 litres last year. News agency ANP points out that the Dutch are 'notorious' refillers of plastic water bottles - probably due to the high quality of Dutch tap water. Farm minister Gerda Verburg has promised a new campaign to try to encourage more people to drink milk.

I love the varieties of milk in Holland except Karne melk :) By Linlita | September 28, 2009 3:16 PM Does anyone care how much milk and botteled water people drink in developed countries! By Anon | September 28, 2009 3:38 PM LOL at Anon! I make up for people who don't drink milk. I drink at least 500ml a day, but often more than that as does my husband and both our kids. I buy 2 cartons of regular milk for my son and me (1.5 liters each) and 2 liters of whole milk for my husband and daughter every other day... so wow, 2.5 liters of milk per day for this family! Sure beats cola! By Laura | September 29, 2009 12:58 PM BTW does anyone wonder how they even came up with the stats they did? Is someone counting our empty milk cartons from the trash or something? By Laura | September 29, 2009 12:59 PM Laura, I would imagine that the stats are based on sales... By stevie | September 29, 2009 7:36 PM

Buying mineral water is a complete waste of money. The water from the tap is perfectly safe & clean for drinking.
I cannot say that tap water from other countries is safe. Water varies in minerals, added chemicals and electrolyte, and can contain harmful bacteria.
Most of the Netherlands has pretty good water, but not cheap!
