€100m given to ‘wrong universities’

A total of €100m has been distributed to the ‘wrong universities’ over the past 14 years because of education ministry mistakes, the NRC reports on Tuesday.

Hardest hit is Delft University, which has missed out on €40m in funding. Tilburg, on the other hand, has had €40m too much.
Universities which have had too much cash will not have to pay the money back while those that have not had enough will get back payments, the newspaper says.
University funding is partly based on the number of students in previous academic years. The financial mistakes date back to the run-up to the introduction of the bachelor’s and master’s system in the Netherlands, the NRC says.
