Youth unemployment is mounting: CBS

The unemployment rate under youngsters aged 15 to 25 has now reached 11.4%, compared with 9.3% a year ago, the national statistics office CBS said on Wednesday.

The jobless rate for the population in general is just over 5%.
The trend is in line with events in 1983, when youth unemployment rose to 17.3%, more than double the rate for the general population, the CBS said. Youth unemployment tends to fall quickly when the economy picks up.
Young men have been particularly hard hit, mainly because they work in sectors which are sensitive to economic cycles such as IT, transport and construction, the CBS said.
