Website re-publishes holocaust cartoon

The Dutch branch of the European Arab league has republished a cartoon about the holocaust on its website just one day after the organisation was warned it could face prosecution.

The public prosecution department said on Tuesday the cartoon ‘insults Jews because of their race and/or religion’ because it implies Jews themselves invented the idea that six million were killed during World War II.’
But publishing controversial Danish cartoons which poke fun at Mohammed is not punishable by law because they target the prophet not Muslims in general, the department said in the same ruling. The Danish cartoons ‘do not insult Muslims nor incite hatred’, it said.
The AEL says it has decided to put the holocaust drawing back on its website to highlight the double standards operating in society. ‘The AEL does not think any of the cartoons should be subject to prosecution,’ the organisation said in a statement.
‘By agreeing to remove them, we are not helping the sense of injustice which our community feels.’
The AEL said yesterday it had removed the cartoon three years ago.
