Supermarket banned from early Sint salesWednesday 26 August 2009 The head office of supermarket group Jumbo has banned its affiliate stores from selling pepernoten - the tiny ginger biscuits associated with the December Sinterklaas festivities - too early. Several stores in the north of the country put the biscuits on sale at the beginning of this month, which led to dozens of complaints, news website nu.nl reported on Wednesday. High street chemist chain Kruidvat is also selling the biscuits, nu.nl says. Nu.nl says this is the earliest Sinterklaas products have gone on sale. Total spending on pepernoten, chocolate letters and other Sint sweets reaches some €40m a year. © DutchNews.nl
Lord, how trivial can one get! By richard | August 26, 2009 8:57 PM "Let them eat Pepernoten!" By AW | August 27, 2009 10:01 AM Who cares? Oh, so holidays can focus on the purchasing of items rather than the actual meaning of the holiday. It's absurd that there are 'Christmas in July' sales in America. I'm glad there is a self-imposed ban on selling of the cookies. Nothing like cheapening a holiday by selling holiday products way too early. Besides, why would I want to keep chocolate letters around for months and then give it to a kid? By C Lulu | August 27, 2009 7:06 PM omg, biscuit police, no way this must be a joke right lol, like you can cheapen Christmas anymore lol really it is the most commercial thing in the world lol By adhd | August 28, 2009 2:44 PM Harrods puts up the Christmas decorations during August! This article is a joke, not news. I like the other comments... yeah who cares!) By stevie | August 29, 2009 5:31 PM
