Special offers push up supermarket sales
Wednesday 05 August 2009
Special offers continue to attract shoppers to supermarkets which saw their combined turnover grow 3.8% to almost €3bn in July compared to the same month last year, according to figures from the sector’s research monitor GfK.
The main reason for the increase is that people are making more trips to the supermarket and shopping around for bargains, said the GfK.
Supermarket sales from special offers rose more than 25% to €400m in the first half of this year, reports GfK. This alone was responsible for an extra growth of 2.5% in supermarkets’ turnover.
