Record number of swimmers rescued

Sea rescue workers pulled a record 104 swimmers from the sea near the Hague resorts of Scheveningen and Kijkduin on Saturday, news agency ANP reports.

A combination of strong currents, the ebb tide and southwesterly winds made it hard for swimmers to return to shore, ANP said. Rescue workers warn similar conditions are likely to prevail this week.
Meanwhile, a 55-year-old woman drowned while swimming in the North Sea close to Bloemendaal after apparently getting into difficulties.
