Four Dutch clubs through in Europa League

PSV Eindhoven, Amsterdam’s Ajax, FC Twente and Heerenveen have all qualified for the group’s phase of football’s Europa League competition.

PSV beat Israeli club Bnei Yehuda 1-0 at home, following a 1-0 victory last week. Heerenveen drew 0-0 at home against Greek team PAOK. The 1-1 away draw last week was enough to push the Frisian club into the next round.
Ajax beat Slovan Bratislava 1-2 away. The Amsterdammers had thrashed the Slovakian team 5-0 in front of a home crowd last week. FC Twente’s away dual against Azerbaijan team FC Karabach ended in a goal-less draw. Twente beat the team from Baku 3-1 at home.
NAC Breda is the only one of the five Dutch Europa league hopefuls to be disappointed. It lost to Spain’s Villarreal 6-1, after a 3-1 defeat last week.
Champions League
Meanwhile, AZ Alkmaar has drawn Arsenal, Standard Luik and Olympiakos in this year’s Champions League competition. On paper, Arsenal is the strongest opposition for the Dutch league champions, says news agency ANP.
