The FNV manufacturing section union Bondgenoten is to campaign against the government’s plans to increase the state pension age from 65 to 67, the AD reports on Monday.

To start the campaign, the union plans to call for a 65-minute strike on October 7, Bondgenoten chairman Henk van der Kolk told the paper.
‘The cabinet has trust issues,’ Van der Kolk was quoted as saying. He claims the cabinet is already taking steps to introduce the new age limit even though it had pledged to wait until unions and employers came up with an alternative plan in the autumn.
Van der Kolk said the government should be looking at other ways of cutting spending, such as reducing mortgage-related tax relief for high earners.
‘At the moment people who earn a lot can claim the biggest tax break because they are in the highest tax band,’ he told the paper.
The Netherlands is the only northern European country preparing to increase the pension age to 67 to help cope with the financial crisis.
