The number of stormy days this month was double the normal July level says the weather institute KNMI on Friday. Despite the storms, July was warmer and sunnier than normal for the time of the year, says the KNMI.

The KNMI recorded 11 days of storms this month and 22 days with lightning – with over 41,000 lightning strikes on 21 July alone.
The average rainfall was 101 millimetres compared to a normal level of 70 millimetres. The last relatively dry July was in 2006 when just 29 millimetres of rain fell.
The average temperature in July was 18.2 degrees Celsius, slightly up on the 17.4 degree norm.
