'TNT poised to sack 11,000,' says ADThursday 02 July 2009 Postal delivery group TNT is poised to sack 11,000 delivery workers and sorting staff over the next two years, the AD reports on Thursday. The paper says TNT Post boss Harry Koorstra is set to outline details of the cuts in a personal leaflet to staff later today. Yesterday department managers were told of the job losses. TNT is facing increasing competition from new players such as Sandd and Selekt Mail, and expects a fall in volume of up to 6% this year. New entrants to the market largely treat their delivery workers as freelancers, leading to much lower staffing costs. Talks between unions and TNT management on a pay cut for staff have failed to reach an agreement. The company said in 2007 that thousands of jobs would go if wages were not cut. The company employs some 60,000 people in the Netherlands, of whom around 25,000 deliver mail. More to follow © DutchNews.nl Get the DutchNews.nl newsletter in your mailbox: Click here to subscribe
@hmc. I totally agree with you because think the system is not working efficiently and at the end it may be costing more. However, even if in general, i have see good attitude from the people that deliver mail. MY question would be, why do the simple employees have to be the first victim always? Obviously something is not working well for TNT. FIRE the CEO or the management team, take people which are leaders in their field, which know how to make efficient business plans and operate them also. You fire 11.000 employees today, 11000 families loose one salary! If the same situation continues, CEO or management team which costs 50 times more than single employess will stay there, and more employees are to be fired. By lb | July 3, 2009 12:50 AM I have to agree with hmc, my wife and I, as well as several neighbours have had the 'customer not home' routine, and have had parcels sent back at cost, and other mail never arriving. I have attempted to get TNT to reimburse us for these costs, but we have been ignored time and time again. By Bert | July 3, 2009 10:24 AM |

Can't say I'm surprised. I had a package that TNT were to deliver to my office last week and the delivery man drove right by the building and listed customer not home in his system. Its this workshy lazy attitude that increases cost of package delivery if the company has to deliver twice. And the reason why they have to let people go.
Or how about this for groundbreaking... Deliver out of work hours with pre-arranged appointments. That's gotto be cheaper and yeild a higher first time successful delivery. It aint rocket science.
