Rita Verdonk opens movement to members

Rita Verdonk is to reform her populist Trots op Nederland (proud of the Netherlands) movement into a proper political party, allowing supporters to become members for €24 a year.

Until now, TON has had just one member – Verdonk herself. Once the party has over 1,000 members, it will be eligible for state funding.
Everyone, whether a member of not, will still be able to influence TON’s direction, Verdonk told the Volkskrant. ‘But people have told me they would like to join. They want to feel they belong,’ she told the Telegraaf.
According to recent polls, TON would fail to win any seats if there was a general election tomorrow.
Geert Wilders’ anti-immigration party PVV also has no members but Wilders.
