MPs vote to ban mink farming

A small majority of MPs on Tuesday voted in favour of a ban on fur farming in the Netherlands by 2018, reports the NRC.

The Netherlands is one of the biggest mink farming nations in the world, with 164 farms producing five million pelts a year.
The ban was proposed by Labour and the Socialist party last year. The legislation still has to go through the upper house of parliament and that vote is likely to be very close as well.
