Green light for 3 new wind farms in N. Sea
Monday 27 July 2009
The government has given the green light for three new off-shore wind farms in the North Sea.
Three German companies were given the go-ahead for wind farms in the sea 56 kms north of the island of Schiermonnikoog on Monday. According to the transport and water ministry, the units will not be visible from the Wadden islands.
Once the new licences become definite, the companies can apply for a government subsidy for the wind farms.
Earlier this year, six other projects were given the go-ahead bringing the total amount of new off-shore wind power to over 2,800MW.
The government wants 6,000MW of electricity to be generated from offshore wind parks by 2020.
