Government backs Olympic bid

The government is to invest €13.5m in preparing a Dutch bid to host the 2028 Olympics, 100 years after it last staged the games.

The money has been raised from a number of departments, such as a fund to get the Dutch to take more exercise.
Announcing the pre-bid funding, sports minister Jet Bussemaker said a final decision would be taken in 21016.
The Netherlands is also bidding to co-host the 2018 football World Cup together with Belgium.
Last week, Rotterdam made a surprise announcement that it planned to bid to host the event. Earlier, Amsterdam made its interest known.
