Ed Nijpels to chair pension fund ABP

Liberal party stalwart Ed Nijpels is the new chairman of civil service pension fund ABP, replacing acting chairman and Noord-Holland queen's commissioner Harry Borghouts.

Nijpels, a former housing minister and queen's commissioner in Friesland, is currently chairman of the civil engineering sector body ONRI and on the supervisory board at DSB Bank.

He will quit the banking job to take up the ABP role, the Financieele Dagblad reports.

Borghouts has been forced to relinquish the position following the row over Noord-Holland's loss of €78m invested in Icelandic banks.
