Dutch labour market participation high

The Netherlands has the second highest labour market participation rate within the EU, the national statistics office CBS said on Wednesday.


In total, 77% of the Dutch working population aged between 15 and 65 work at least one hour a week, compared with an EU average of 66%.
The percentage for men, 83%, is the highest in Europe, the CBS said. And some 71% of Dutch women work, compared with and EU average of 59%.
When it comes to older workers, 63% of Dutch people between 50 and 65 have job which is above the EU average of 57% but well below most northern European countries.
Some 4.6% of the working population in the Netherlands is officially unemployed.
