Titum arum set to bloom in Leiden
Friday 19 June 2009
One of the world's strangest plants, the giant titan arum (amorphophallus titanum), is expected to bloom at Leiden's botanical gardens on Sunday night.
The botanical gardens are open on Sunday evening as part of midsummer celebrations.
The titan arum produces the world's biggest flowers after eight to 15 year's of growth. The flowers, which have a terrible stench like rotting meat, last just two nights.
A second plant is set to flower in about three weeks time, garden officials said.

It amazes me to the ways that plants evolved over time to mimic animal smells. The Venus fly trap too is an interesting species. people think plants do not "think", then how did they evolve into these amazing plants? Not "intelligent design" but evolution, just as humans evolved from the caveman. Well most humans evolved, some are still stuck in the dark ages due to the book they read.
