Mayors to get warned of criminal release

The mayors of Amsterdam, Rotterdan, The Hague and seven other cities are to be given advance warning when serious criminals are released from jail on a trial basis, the justice ministry said on Tuesday.

The warnings will cover criminals convicted of serious crimes of violence or sex attacks and who are returning to their former homes, the ministry said.
The experiment, which will run until March, has been triggered by a number of incidents involving convicted paedophiles.
