‘Keep holiday plans secret on social networks’

People who use social networking websites such as MySpace and Hyves should be careful not to reveal too much about their holiday plans because of the risk that burglars are monitoring entries, insurance company FBTO warned on Monday.

‘Burglars used to monitor letter boxes to find out if someone was away, but now they are looking at digital messages,’ an FBTO spokesman was quoted as saying by the Volkskrant.
None of the media reports referring to FBTO’s warning gave any examples of people who have been targeted by thieves because of comments on social networks.
