Queen’s Day attacker: VIP visit for parents

Princess Magriet’s husband Pieter van Vollenhoven paid a visit to the parents of the man who drove his car into the Queen’s Day crowd in Apeldoorn, killing himself and seven others, the Volkskrant reports on Thursday.

Van Vollenhoven expressed his sympathy to Karst Tates’ parents during the visit on May 21, the paper said, quoting the state information service RVD.
Tates drove his black Suzuki into the line of people watching the royal family arrive in an open-topped bus. There are indications it was a direct attack on the queen and her family.
Van Vollenhaven, who is chairman of the Dutch safety research council and victim’s support foundation, made the visit as a representative of the royal family, the RVD said.
