Police in cold chip case

Wednesday 20 May 2009

Two policemen have been ‘severely reprimanded’ for using their emergency light to stop their French fries from going cold, nu.nl writes on Wednesday.

Witnesses saw the pair leave a snack bar carrying the chips and get into their police car. But on being confronted by a red light, they turned on their own blue flashing one and drove off.

Having spent over 20 years in law enforcement/national security I have the solution for this. The local police must publish in the main newspaper and outside their office that this is unacceptable and that the offenders are starting back from the bottom of the pile again. And then they must do just that.

The police have power and responsibilities and thus should always be scrutinized and penalized more severely when abusing those very powers. They must lead by example as the confidence of the entire structure of law and order is depending on their very behaviour.

I hope they are now on foot patrol or standing in front of a school somewhere controlling children on bicycles.

C'mon, don't be too hard on the fuzzywuzzies. It's not often that they show initiative and display the ability to think for themselves. It's not as if they threw someone off a balcony now is it?

I agree with SOLKHAR. I see police violate the law all over town. Just last week I saw one run red light on his scooter only to cruise a few hundred meters and begin to write parking violations!
They are supposed to lead by example and the example they set is "just don't get caught".
Very unprofessional.
