Labour leader rules out alliance with Wilders

Labour leader Wouter Bos on Monday ruled out any possibility of the PvdA being part of a coalition government with Geert Wilders’ anti-Islam PVV.

It would be ‘completely unthinkable for me,’ Bos was reported as saying by news agency ANP. Wilders wants a completely different country than I do, Bos told an audience of students at Amsterdam’s Vrije University.
Bos’s comments mean all the left of centre parties in parliament have now stated they will not link up with Wilders after the next election. The Christian Democrats and VVD have not ruled out an alliance with Wilders.
Opinion polls
Some opinion polls put Wilders’ PVV as the biggest party. According to the latest Maurice de Hond polls, the PVV would take 32 seats out of 150 if there was an election tomorrow. The party currently has nine seats in parliament.
Wilders dismissed Bos’s statement as insulting to voters.
The Dutch political system always produces coalition governments involving at least two parties. The current coalition is between the CDA, Labour and the minor Christian party ChristenUnie. The next election will take place in 2011.
