House prices fall across the board

Wednesday 20 May 2009

House prices in the Netherlands fell by an average of 2.2% in April, compared with April 2008, the national statistics office CBS said on Wednesday.

The estate agents' association NVM said earlier house prices had gone down by 3.1% in the first three months of year, after a 2.5% decline in the last quarter of 2008.

All but semi-detached houses were cheaper, the CBS said.

The number of houses to change hands in April reached 10,000 almost half the April 2008 figure.

Last week Rabobank forecast house prices would drop 5% this year.
