Gay teacher case to equal opportunities body

The gay rights lobby group COC has asked the equal opportunities commission to rule on the case of the gay teacher suspended by a staunchly Protestant school.

The primary school is guilty of discrimination, the COC told news agency ANP. The teacher was suspended after telling the school authorities he was in a relationship with a man.
Education minister Ronald Plasterk suggested last week that the issue be brought to the commission.
The issue of gay teachers at strict Protestant schools is a sensitive one because it conflicts with freedom of religion legislation.
