Former policeman faces spying charges

A former policeman in Rotterdam is to be prosecuted for passing on information from confidential police files to the Moroccan authorities, the public prosecution department said on Wednesday.

The man was sacked last year after an internal investigation showed he was breaking confidentiality agreements. The department has declined to say what sort of information the man is alleged to have sent to Morocco. His work primarily focused on youth integration issues.
The case let to a diplomatic row and two officials attached to the Moroccan embassy being expelled.
