Doctors opt out of digital medical record plan

One third of the country’s doctors have opted out of the digital medical records scheme (EPD) and a further third are considering doing so, according to medical journal Medisch Contact.

The cabinet wants to bring in the EPD next year, claiming it will reduce the deaths by medical faults by 1,200. The system will allow doctors, hospital specialists and pharmacists to access patients’ records from a central point.
Some 500,000 people have so far said they do not want their medical records to be included.
