MPs approve army imam by one vote

MPs gave a one vote majority to the appointment of Muslim cleric Ali Eddaoudi as an army chaplain on Tuesday evening.

Seventy MPs voted in favour of the appointment, 69 were against.
The appointment became embroiled in controversy because of remarks Eddaoudi made about the prime minister and the situation in Afghanistan in newspaper columns several years ago.
