Microsoft, TomTom settle out of court

The world's largest software maker Microsoft and Dutch satellite navigation system maker TomTom have reached a deal on their patent dispute, according to website Information Week.

Financial details were not disclosed.

In February, Microsoft filed claims against TomTom alleging it had infringed eight of its patents. TomTom filed a countersuit in March based on four of its patents.

The five-year settlement means that TomTom will pay Microsoft for the use of eight patents but Microsoft will not have to pay TomTom for using its patents.

The case revolved around open source software.
