Go ahead for electric car charger network

Friday 24 April 2009

The Netherlands' electricity grid companies have agreed to set up a nationwide network of charging stations for electric cars, the Volkskrant reports on Friday.

The plan envisages a network of at least 10,000 charging stations by 2012.

The paper says the grid companies want to avoid a 'chicken and egg' situation whereby power firms refuse to develop charging points because there is no demand and consumers don't buy electric cars because there is nowhere to charge them.

The cost of the project - some €15m - will be paid by the grid companies themselves.
