Bus firm Arriva fined for unsafe buses

Bus company Arriva has been fined €6,000 for using unsafe buses in Den Bosch after winning the franchise to operate bus services in the city at the end of 2006.

The public prosecution department had called for a €90,000 fine, but the court ruled that the justice ministry had taken too long to make its case.
An inspection of city buses in February 2007 led to 21 out of 22 being taken out of service. Seventeen buses had problems with their brakes.
